Research-Based Interventions on Dissociative Disorders
Dissociative disorders (DD) refers to a cluster of disorders that show a loss of the person’s identity of self (University of Sheffield Learning Media Unit 2009). According to Butcher et al. (2014), “these include depersonalization/derealization disorder, dissociative amnesia, dissociative fugue (a subtype of dissociative amnesia) and dissociative identity disorder” (p. 276). This author will evaluate three peer reviewed research articles on treatments for DD, conceptualize the disorder using the posttraumatic theory and discuss effective treatment option for DD. Myrick et al. (2012) state, “dissociative disorders have been found all over the world. Studies have documented prevalence rates ranging from 12% to 28% in adult populations” (p.583).
